ROVER
ROVER is a project in which residual streams from local industries are inventoried and reused in a furniture production. The method developed in the project reverses the design process. Instead of starting with an idea and then designing and materialising, this project starts from what is there. In this way, it aims to change the perception of waste streams and add a new step to the life cycle of materials.
On the one hand, ROVER works on products. Using existing continuous residual streams, products are developed whose production has the potential to scale up until the residual stream is fully revalued. A first product launched last summer is the Latto lamp, made from discarded slatted bases from thrift shops and bed-distributors. From summer 2025, the SCRAP chair, made from leftover rebar and metal punching scraps, will also be available on the webshop.
On the other hand, ROVER works on projects. Companies come to them with a specific residual product and ask for advice. ROVER investigates the possibilities and you work together, or independently, to develop a prototype or possible application. The reverse is also possible, companies coming to them with a specific design task that they would like to see carried out using local residual flows. This is where ROVER gets to work by drawing on their material library of residual streams that they have built up during our 'Rovers trips' in recent years.
Finally, companies can also consult ROVER for advice on managing their residual streams sustainably.
Because Rovers is RUST!
