Biocircular construction – but how exactly?
Biocircular construction: everyone’s talking about it, but on site it often feels different. New materials, different details, questions about cost, scheduling or responsibility. What’s actually working today? And what challenges do contractors or architects face?
Camp C
- 29 April 2026 / 09:15 - 15:30
During this hands-on workshop, we’ll lay the facts on the table. No theory without practical context, but honest discussions about biocircular construction as it’s experienced on site today. We’ll start with familiar arguments, concerns and experiences from people in the field, and together we’ll explore the nuances: what’s already possible? What isn’t yet? Where is there scope to make progress?
In the morning, Natura Mater will take you through a practical information session on biocircular building materials. Together, we’ll explore their applicability, composition, production, technical properties, impact and cost. There’ll be time for questions, concerns and experiences from the audience.
After lunch, we’ll step it up a gear. In the afternoon, you’ll get to work yourself. In small groups, you’ll take part in three hands-on workshops, in which bio-circular materials come to life, organised by Leemniscaat, Woonder and Labland, by ISOPROC and by IsoHemp. You can find more information about these workshops below.
Each workshop will be repeated several times throughout the afternoon, so you can try them all. You will feel, test, ask questions and gain an insight into what the materials can mean for your projects.
At this seminar, we want to take your concerns to heart, whilst at the same time providing you with tools to apply biocircular construction step by step.
This event is organised as part of the BIO-CAPPP. Kamp C and the project partners are facilitating the commercial production of bio-aromatics and stimulating the market for sustainable products with premium properties.
Presentations in the morning
Camp C: The reality on the table
Bio-based materials are rapidly gaining attention in the construction sector. But how are they actually being used on site? During this introductory session, we will focus on real-world practice. We will discuss the questions and concerns that contractors and designers currently have. What are the barriers today? Where do uncertainties still lie? And which experiences demonstrate the potential of bio-circular construction?
Together with other experts, we will lay out the reality. In this way, we will have a constructive discussion about what is needed to enable bio-based materials to gain wider acceptance in the sector.
Natura Mater: Practical information session
Natura Mater explores a range of building materials and examines various aspects of them, such as suitability, composition, production process, environmental impact, technical properties, applications and costs. The audience shares their experiences and, together, they explore the finer details.
Afternoon workshops
Leemniscaat, Labland and Woonder: clay plaster instead of gypsum plaster
What does building with clay, straw or locally sourced timber mean for your building site? In this workshop, you’ll discover how to work with very local, entirely natural and barely processed materials. You’ll see how clay is prepared and gain an understanding of drying times and planning. Practical knowledge to take with you to your next projects.
ISOPROC: Cellulose blow-in insulation
You will see and experience how cellulose is blown in, what preparation is required, and what this means in terms of airtightness, speed and cost.
IsoHemp: Stacking with lime hemp blocks
You will learn how to lay lime-hemp blocks, what you need to bear in mind when it comes to detailing and finishing, and how this differs from traditional brickwork.
We look forward to seeing you!
Registration for this Kamp C workshop is free, but compulsory. If you’re unable to attend on the day, please let us know by 27 April. See you then!
