Soon to open The Exploded View at Kamp C
On 13 March, at Kamp C in Westerlo, the press was able to see The Exploded View Beyond Building, an exhibition in the form of a life-size house. Together with local partners, Kamp C gives a fresh look at all things sustainable with this demonstration house: creative, modern, and impressive even before finishing.
Sustainable building is already happening in abundance and also has much new to offer. This is proven by The Exploded View Beyond Building, the exhibition in the shape of a life-size house. "Traditional building techniques emit a lot of CO₂," says Rob Cornelissen, strategy & innovation manager at Kamp C. "It is important that we start building more with local, natural materials because they store CO₂ instead of emitting it. In this expo, visitors can learn about applications that are already on the market today, as well as materials under development that we still have to wait until tomorrow or the day after."
Biobased Creations is the owner and designer of The Exploded View. The aim is to show that a lot is already affordable and feasible on a small scale. "For example, the construction of this entire house is made of wood, a fine way to build," says Pascal Leboucq, head of design at Biobased Creations. "The exhibition house will show more than a hundred biobased building applications for facades, walls and floors, among others," indicates deputy and president of Kamp C Kathleen Helsen.
The possibilities for those applications are endless. For example, we are premiering a kitchen worktop made from eggshells and cranberry seeds, specially developed for Kamp C," says Leboucq. But the pavilion also takes a broader approach: sustainable building is only possible if you consider the whole chain. 3D printing, reuse and local mining ensure that the building also counts in circular terms.
The expo was shown at last year's Floriade in Almere and earlier at Dutch Design Week in Eindhoven. Kamp C is now bringing the demonstration house to Belgium for the first time and is going for a fully sustainable construction. A lot of local partnerships were therefore concluded, such as with Sidati for the construction and with material partners for e.g. acoustic panels made from paper waste and a wall garden as the building shell.
The construction of the pavilion is almost finished. From April to October 2023, both professionals and individuals can visit the exhibition. Professionals are welcome every Tuesday and Thursday. Every third Saturday of the month, private individuals are given a guided tour. The general public can enjoy two theme days on 5 July and 19 August.
