Project

Tandems is a project within the LIFE-2021-CET-ENERCOM scope A programme, led by Kamp C. Eleven Belgian, Dutch, Bulgarian and Austrian partners are participating in the project, which runs from 1 October 2022 to 30 September 2025. The partnership receives a European grant of 95% of expenditure, or €1,749,178.00. Camp C's project budget is €198,217.50.

Energy Communities can help citizens and local authorities invest in renewable energy sources and energy efficiency. Local governments are in a unique position to support, participate in and invest in these projects, and to create a positive planning and policy environment to help promote community energy sources.

However, in several countries, such as Belgium and the Netherlands, there are concerns that the CEC and REC models will be commercialised, making citizen participation redundant. In Bulgaria, energy community guidelines have not yet been transposed. In TANDEMS, we argue that established energy cooperatives are the right "vehicles" to ensure an equitable and accelerated transition, involving citizens at every step.

Starting from the development of an open cooperation model, the project will demonstrate how new and closer partnerships between cities/regions and energy cooperatives can lead to a regional community energy support framework that can be widely adopted in EU regions.

The TANDEMS project brings together three European regions with different starting blocks and speeds, different cultural backgrounds and circumstances, but working towards the same goal: empowering and facilitating citizens to participate in the transition to clean energy, a key route to solving the climate problem we all face.

TANDEMS aims to develop a wide variety of replicable models and training, demonstrate and launch 67 community energy projects, support and/or create 23 citizens' initiatives by the end of the project in 2025.

The project has 11 partners from Belgium, the Netherlands, Bulgaria and Austria.
