Kamp C looks back on projects

Kamp C collaborated on a lot of projects. We look back at the main achievements from 2022.

Solarise

Solarise promotes the adoption of solar energy in historic/public buildings and households (with a focus on low-income households). In this way, Solarise supports the EU target of 20% energy consumption from renewable energy sources by 2020. The project started in March 2018 and will end in March 2023. Many project partners are working on Solarise: Université de Picardie Jules Verne (FR), KULeuven/TC Ghent (BE), Brighton & Hove City Council (UK), Flux50 (BE), Middelburg (NL), Enercoop (FR), Kamp C (BE), Zoersel (BE), Middelkerke (BE), Fourmies (FR), Heerhugowaard (NL) and University of Portsmouth (UK). Thanks to Solarise, Zoersel municipality was able to test and demonstrate innovative solar energy solutions. This included thermal solar slates on the roof of the renovated presbytery, coupled to a water pump with an ice buffer system.

Circular Biobased Construction Industry

Two real-life construction projects form the core of the Circular Biobased Construction Industry (CBCI) project. We call them our living labs: an extension of a health centre in the province of Zeeland and a new building on the KU Leuven building campus in Ghent. This new circular building will later be used as a row house in an urban renewal project in Ghent. The results of the test set-ups and of the various studies on bio-based materials are presented together with practical tips in the CBCI expo at Kamp C. All info to visit the expo or to borrow the mobile version for free can be found on the website. The CBCI project is complete but we are continuing our efforts on bio-based building at Kamp C with the arrival of the Exploded View Beyond Building exhibition.

Project Build. Create. Innovate.

Together with POM Antwerp, Kamp C carried out the Build.Create.Innovate. project. The project aims to raise awareness among (Kempen) companies active in the construction sector about the need for sustainable innovation and to support them in strengthening their competitive position in a rapidly changing and increasingly international economic climate. Through cross-sector collaboration with creative experts, we stimulated new forms of entrepreneurship or intrapreneurship. During the 2022 co-creation process, we guided 4 SMEs from Kempen with their business model. In co-creation with these SMEs, four creative companies from the province of Antwerp drew up a concrete action plan to implement sustainable innovation within their business operations. The closing event was organised at ETAP Lighting. Curious about the participants' experiences? Check out our final publication here. The project ran from 1 October 2020 to 30 September 2022.

Housing 4.0 Energy project

How to make low-energy housing feasible for everyone? Kamp C and the province of Flemish Brabant took up the challenge with the European project 'Housing 4.0. Energy' took up the challenge. Together with our European partners: European Institute for Innovation - Technology (HU), Municipality of Almere (NL), Delft University of Technology (NL), Carlow Kilkenny Energy Agency (IE), South West College (IE), WikiHouse Foundation (UK), we investigated the possibilities of innovative techniques and materials to build CO2-neutral houses. Energy-efficient 'pilot houses' were built in Huldenberg in Flemish Brabant and at six sites abroad.

From the partnership, we achieved the following by 2022:

  • A digital platform to design small-scale and energy-neutral homes
  • The final conference at the Floriade Expo in Almere
  • Online training modules

Housing 4.0 Energy came about thanks to the Interreg North-West Europe grant programme. The project runs from 31 May 2018 to 28 February 2023. Kamp C completed its contribution on 1 July 2022.
