Lively Kamp C: the story of RSK

In 2018, some RSK Benelux employees moved to Kamp C. Initially, the location came on the radar due to the need for expansion. RSK likes to ensure that all employees find an office space close to home. But it soon became clear that Kamp C was more than just a nearby location. It was the green surroundings that convinced them to rent an office here. Since a few months, colleagues from RSK Energy & Climate have also found their way to Kamp C.

From soil research to energy audits

RSK Benelux is originally a soil investigation company. Their focus is mainly on environmental matters, such as soil remediation. Step by step, the company has started to expand and in the meantime they also have the 'materials' department under their belt.

"When we dig a well, we can also determine the quality of the soil," explains Baué Boonen. "We offer demolition supervision, provide tests to provide infiltration capacity in unpaved soil and have our own fieldwork team that can take samples manually or mechanically. With these works, we also contribute a piece to the construction industry, in addition to our environmental work."

For their part, RSK Energy & Climate is poised to conquer the energy world. As a subsidiary of RSK Benelux, they do everything related to the necessary energy transition. They help other companies become carbon neutral. This ranges from conducting energy audits, to implementing the CO2 performance ladder, to examining companies' carbon footprints.

Thessa Van Limbergen: "During an energy audit, for example, we look at where a company's energy flows are and how to improve them. We also introduce ISO 50001 in companies, an international standard for energy efficiency. We mainly deal with pre-engineering, where we make a lot of plans and proposals for a more energy-efficient company."

In addition, RSK Benelux is not only concerned with the carbon footprint of others, but also their own. An ISO 14000-certified parent company, the possibility of teleworking and electric cars - they themselves too keep their impact within their operations as low as possible.

A taste for later

And then the big question: what will the future bring? The construction world is moving, and RSK Benelux and RSK Energy & Climate are not staying behind. Today, while remediating land, RSK Benelux already tries to remediate as much as possible on site and make use of the existing biology. They create the right conditions and use the soil's own micro-bacteria. There is digging, but the soil is cleaned on site. This is something they will continue to focus on in the future. Whereas today they still draw up demolition inventories, RSK Benelux is looking at whether they can evolve these towards a reuse inventory, in order to contribute their circularity in this way too.

RSK Energy has the ambition to keep growing. They have their eyes on a European collaboration with other companies in the group. Working with the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) could also offer exciting opportunities. We are already looking forward to seeing where their business adventures take them!
