Renovate with spirit: Kamp C seeks design team for bio-based and circular renovation

After the successful realisation of the circular new-build project 't Centrum, Kamp C takes up another challenge with an ambitious renovation: we are transforming our iconic Infocentrum into the central hotspot of the site. Indeed, the building will become the beating heart of a transforming and bio-based building sector. For this renovation, we are looking for a creative and forward-thinking design team to join us on this unique renovation journey.

The renovation is part of the ERDF project "Flemish Innovation Centre for Bio-based Building".

Innovation and sustainability in practice

The renovation goes beyond a standard project. We don't just want to renovate the building, but really transform it into a model case in the field of circular and bio-based construction. The reuse of materials and techniques plays a central role in this. The building itself will be a demonstration of sustainable construction methods, with plenty of space for experiments and innovations by start-ups and researchers, and complete with a cafeteria and conference rooms. Circular and bio-based building principles will not only be applied here, but also actively demonstrated and experienced by visitors. Those interested in the project are already invited during the construction phase to experience the progress and be inspired by the process.

Cooperation as key to success

Another important aspect of this project is that we are very strongly committed to early collaborations. We are working with a type of construction team in which the contractor is selected and involved in the design process at an early stage. This is a new feature in Flanders, and makes it possible to integrate the contractor's expertise immediately and further refine the design on that basis. Through this approach, we create a holistic vision of the project, in which architecture, building technology and materials go hand in hand from the start and execution risks are reduced. At the same time, we explore ways of tendering in a simpler way in the future so that the process can be more efficient, cheaper and with fewer risks for all parties.

What do we expect from the design team?

We invite interested design teams to submit their project vision and plan of approach to us by Wednesday 30 October at the latest. The chosen design team will work with us to shape the ambitions of the renovation. A site visit is mandatory and to be scheduled by yourself preferably during the week of 7 October. You can do this by emailing email hidden; JavaScript is required.

In a nutshell, we are looking for the right partner to embark on this voyage of discovery with: a design team that is open to collaboration and wants to help think about how we can make this project an inspiring reality.

Ready to help make a difference?
