ROOILIJN Architecture up for innovative project
Kamp C has selected ROOILIJN Architectuur as the design team for the renovation of the first building ever built on the Kamp C site, the Infocentre. This project is more than a renovation: it will be an inspiring example of bio-based building, reuse of materials and an innovative way of working together in the construction sector. By choosing ROOILIJN, we are taking another important step towards a more sustainable future.
A visionary approach
The call for the design team, launched in September, called for an innovative approach with a strong focus on circularity and bio-based building materials. The design team of ROOILIJN Architecture, which also includes Blieberg, Studiebureau Cobbaut, ABT, M-gineers and BeGREEN@Home, convinced not only with their creative ideas, integral vision and expertise, but also with their strong motivation and enthusiasm.
"What immediately stood out was the enormous desire to work on this project," says Sofie Torfs, project manager at Kamp C."Their drive really stood out during the whole process, from the site visit onwards. They were motivated, critical and showed great consideration for the construction team. ROOILIJN sees this as an opportunity to pioneer and innovate together within this formula."
Moreover, the team aims to make this project more than just a renovation: they want to contribute to a socially relevant learning process and share new insights together with Kamp C and Hasselt University for the future of the construction sector in Belgium. That ROOILIJN not only looks at the end result but also at the road towards it makes them the ideal partner for this project.
More than a sustainable renovation, we want to create an experience full of energy, life and innovation.

The construction team formula: a revolution in collaboration
To realise this renovation, we chose a special construction team formula in the Belgian construction landscape. Our approach brings the contracting authority, the designer and the executor together at an early stage to work as partners on the project. This way of working encourages co-creation, shortens the lead time and ensures a more sustainable construction process, reducing execution risks.
Kamp C and Hasselt University believe that by working together in a construction team, we can realise better and more sustainable construction projects. Admittedly, we are in largely uncharted territory, and we don't yet know where we will run aground. In any case, it will be a fascinating journey whose findings we will share as we go along, with the quiet hope that it can further facilitate sustainable procurement.
What else is on the agenda?
Now that the search for a design team has been successfully completed, we will start looking for a suitable contractor to complete the construction team. You will soon find more information on the schedule and content of this tender on our website and during our content morning session for contractors on Thursday 13 February. Interested?
