VITO brings sustainable initiatives to Kamp C in Westerlo

With VITOpolis, the Flemish Institute for Technological Research (VITO) shows the way to sustainability in an interactive way. This pop-up expo travels around Flanders and aims to take citizens on a low-threshold tour of what 'sustainability' means in our daily lives. With VITO's water experience container, which will descend on Kamp C at the same time as VITOpolis, VITO especially wants to show business parks how they can jointly benefit from water.

'If Mohammed doesn't come to the mountain, the mountain will come to Mohammed'. From this position, VITO decided last year to go full steam ahead with an interactive exhibition on sustainability that will cross Flanders in cycles of two months over the next few years. After all, 'sustainability' is no longer a buzzword. It is the guarantee that we can spend much longer on this world in a healthy way. Anyone entering VITOpolis will see how even small actions can make a difference. In an interactive way, awareness is raised and you see how innovative technologies can make a sustainable future a reality.

The exhibition is free and interesting for young and old because the modules are put together in such a way that every visitor can find a challenge in them. Adults gain insights into sustainable living, schools and youth associations can visit the expo this way or embroider on it further at school through available teaching packages that are in line with the curriculum. For schools, there is also the possibility of combining a visit to VITOpolis with a workshop in the hybrid learning environment Hylas Bouw, which also takes place in the same building as VITOpolis.

But also for companies, a visit, whether or not coupled with a meeting or networking opportunity at Kamp C, is a unique opportunity. Especially if the opportunity is taken to also visit the water profit container.

After all, this unique, travelling water experience container from VITO specifically targets companies. Preventing and managing drought and flooding are two of the most important challenges for the coming decades. Companies play a crucial role in this. In an interactive and practice-based way, the walk-through of the container makes it clear how business parks can jointly benefit from water. Because water is increasingly becoming an issue: sometimes there is too much, sometimes too little, and certainly water-intensive companies see their productivity partly determined by water challenges.

This is the first time that both VITOpolis and the water experience container are in the same location. This is not least because of the location. Kamp C is the centre for sustainability and innovation in construction and is therefore closely aligned with VITO's ambition, which has sustainability as its common thread. VITO and Kamp C are good friends with a common goal.
