Project description

The construction sector is responsible for around 40% of Europe’s CO₂ emissions and consumes more than half of all materials extracted worldwide. The greatest environmental impact comes not from new-builds, but from the existing housing stock.

In Flanders and the Netherlands combined, housing associations and social housing organisations manage over 2.5 million social housing units: a huge number that needs to be renovated sustainably. Yet the transition is stalling. Knowledge is fragmented, reliable data is scarce, and circular products are rarely standardised. Pioneers are carrying out small-scale pilot projects, but the insights gained are not finding their way into the wider sector.

CARES aims to bridge that gap. The project brings together partners from Belgium and the Netherlands to remove systemic bottlenecks, stimulate supply-chain collaboration and develop a shared methodology that aligns with the day-to-day working practices of social housing providers. The result will be a practical, well-established circular renovation approach that is cross-border and scalable.

Role of Kamp C

As a knowledge partner, Kamp C contributes its expertise in sustainable and circular construction. Kamp C translates technical and methodological insights into practice and ensures that the approach is firmly established within the Flemish sector of housing associations and construction professionals.

Interreg Flanders-Netherlands

This project is receiving funding from Interreg Flanders-Netherlands amounting to 232,274.00 euros.

This Interreg project brings together various partners from Flanders and the Netherlands.
