Construction and Social Economy

The construction sector accounts for 40 per cent of greenhouse gas emissions, half of energy consumption and material flows, and one-third of water consumption. To reduce this, bio-based materials and circular construction will play a crucial role.

Besides well-known construction materials, numerous new products have been developed or are under development. These focus on materials that can be extracted and processed locally. It is our belief that social economy will play a key role in accelerating the transition to more sustainable construction.

The project

With the project "Integrating social economy within the transition of the construction sector to a sustainable society", Kamp C is looking for concrete ways to facilitate the transition to a sustainable society and realise maximum impact within the province.

How?

On the one hand, we do this by bridging the gap between education, hybrid learning environments and competence development of people distanced from the labour market. We are also exploring the role that Kamp C can play in this for the construction sector. We facilitate a thorough acquaintance and exchange between social economy actors and construction actors. This results in an action plan that forms a solid basis for setting up concrete partnerships, with The Exploded View Beyond Building project as a leading example.

Brochure

To highlight the role of tailoring companies, we developed a brochure in cooperation with our partners. This brochure contains many inspiring examples for contractors, design agencies and material producers, as well as concrete situations of how cooperation between construction and social economy is already happening in practice today. We also provide answers to the most common questions and concerns regarding social economy. Are you looking for tips, tools or useful websites? Would you like to set up a cooperation yourself? You will find the brochure in our publications database on this website or you can pick it up at Kamp C and its partners.

Workshop

On 29 November 2022, we invited actors from the social economy and construction sector to a workshop to look for a better way of working together.

We zoomed in on 3 themes and came up with some key take-aways:

  • An inspiring & practical support framework and legislation can boost cooperation between the two sectors.
  • The guidance process to tailor-made companies should be faster and simpler, with more interaction between actors, as best practices already prove today.
  • A network and associated platform is needed to match the supply of tailor-made companies with the needs in the construction sector.
  • An information campaign should publicise the quality and added value of the social economy.

The presentations and engagements can be downloaded from the publications database on this website.

For this project, we are working with our partner.
